CrazyMusso

Hi there, my name's Pete, and
this is my Musso page. I bought my Musso from eBay in November 2004 as a
bargain 4x4 after having a Daewoo 2.9TD on loan for a week a couple of
years previous (thanks to a mate who was a Daewoo manager). I longed for
an example of my own, and struck lucky on eBay despite being outbid at the
last moment when the 'buyer' turned out to be a scammer.
Collected from Poole, Dorest after a long train ride down, I came home
with my new toy and a smirk from ear to ear!

The vehicle I had bought was a 1996
Musso 2.9D SE model in "Navy Blue Metallic" as the brochure calls it, and
had 85,000 miles on it when purchased...
I was lucky to have a few extras already fitted prior to purchase, such as
Side Steps, Double socket Towbar, and Avon Ranger All Terrain tyres in
extra wide fitting on the standard rims (265/75/15).
Once home, I started to clean it up to my liking, despite the fact that it
had been looked
after, as there were areas where dirt had accumulated since new under some
trim... Never been off-roaded in its previous life, the underside can best
be described as solid and clean. I was amazed at the strong structure when
I ventured underneath - seems they built these to stand a lot of
punishment. After a good valet, it came up looking much better for its
age, despite having a few scrapes and scratches on the sides...
It came with a
very nice Kenwood CD Radio instead of the factory fit, and apart from
having to change a bent ariel, I've left it well alone. Modifications so
far have included: Fitting a First Aid kit and Fire Extinguisher in the
rear load area; Blue LED dash lighting behind the instrument cluster; Blue
LED spot to illuminate the centre console / Audion panel; Blue LED
gearknob; Blue LED steering wheel cover (!!); extra rear 12V power socket
in rear of centre console; polishing up the engine cam cover; extra LED
rear sidelights in dummy housings on tailgate; fitted carpet mats (eBay
bargain); and replacing the existing twin electric sockets on towball when
tidying up that part.
I plan on a few more modifications as time allows, such as Front Fog
lights and LED marker lights in the spaces in front airdam; possible blue
under car lighting (?).
I have always done a lot of my own maintenance, and the Musso has proved
remarkably easy to work on for such a big brute... Parts have been
available over the counter at even the smallest Motor Factors, thanks to
it using the Mercedes drivetrain.... I fully utilise the CD manual I
obtained prior to joining this club, and having a laptop makes it so much
easier to work with the manual from the comfort of the front seat....
I'm currently looking forward to my first attendance at a club event, and
really want to enjoy the 4x4 experience to the full, even if it does
involve a bit of "mud-plugging" and subsequent washing......

I can't speak highly enough for my Musso - it's an awful lot of high spec
4x4 for very little outlay when you consider it's rivals... The running
gear is proven reliable, the build quality issues from Ssangyong are
easily rectified, and for a vehicle this size, getting 30mpg is amazing
economy!
